my portfolio | version 1

This is my portfolio or individual creatitvity as known as at DepthVision. Has most of my art that i did. What you all think of it?

http://dmportfolio.d2networx.com

First of what connection between you and AlienWare game stations? Or you just want to show off ya super duper PC for 1,700 $? Havent found anything special in portfolio either. Well decent as it can be.

P.S. think i am rude? hmmmm watch the news papers or tv news and find out why....

The majority, guessing something like 95% of all Bitmap/Pixel fonts only work when you turn off anti-alising, otherwise they just aren't legable enough to read properly. Maybe on some stupidly small resolution, but you have to ensure it looks good as on many systems as possible. Also Pixel fonts are supposed to look sharp & focused, when you slap some chesey glow around things you defeat the purpose of using one.

"Best viewed using"... 8bit colour what, are you serious... that just sounds like a stupid requirement; you may as well not even have that in there. My mobile phone could dispay more colours than that and most computers use 16/32bit.

You state that it's best seen using 1024*768 but you've clearly designed the layout to be viewable at 800*600, which still happens to be the most widely used.

" " ...using Internet Explorer, yet I'm using FireFox and it seems to work okay (good for you) so it seems to be another unresearched requirement. This brings me down to my final conclusion that your Splash page is pretty useless. You may as well intergrate the navigation links within a consistent layout setup.

I'll look at the rest another time.

I agree with what Trico is saying. The requirements have no point. If you name it different from requirements then maybe. But it doesn’t require any of thoughts things to view it. You could change it to, “optimized for” 1024 x 768 etc.

But 1024 x 768 is now the standard…

My honest opinion is that the site looks a little dull and boring. And that isn’t just because of the use of colour. But, no doubt you tried as much as you could. Keep it up.

thanks for the reply and no u are not rude and if you were i wouldn't care to know why.

[1024x768] IS NOT STANDARD, if you design your site for this resolution I can guaretee you will turn away a large percentage of your visitors... take a look around the most popular websites they were and still are designed for 8*6 users. If you go by the majority of your website statistics, which will undoubtedly include a large auidence of designer minded people who are fully prepared to use better resolutions, hence biast results; what about clients? your site shouldn't just be about looking 'cool' to fellow designers.

If you opt for a liquid layout then you actualy can have your cake an' eat it.

Ahh but u seem to forget that this is a "personal portfolio" meaning he can do whatever he wants with it. General audience aside, its all about his own taste and how good/nice/tasty/horrible environment he wants to portray on his page.

But lets be real, u do want as many people to be able to use ur portfolio as possible and navigation is the key. I say ditch the spalsh, unless u intend to make it preload the images on the site, and auto redirect to the main page. That would at least serve a PURPOSE

Good portfolio, build up on it and continue your design and exploration - you will only get better through time.

Well I read that 1024x768 is now the standard. I tend to optimise for that rez. But it will always work fine and still look good on 800x600. But all in all, personally I coulnt give a shit about the ppl who visit a site of mine that are lame enough to still be on 800x600. :P

I'l try fish out some writen stuff, articles etc where it says 1024x768 is standard.

I always create with 800x600 in mind. Its always been my standard. I did read the new trend is to aim for 1024x768 BUT keep that extra wastage for the ads so that people with lower resolution dont get affected too much. But to be honest, i never really like fixed size layouts - which is why i dont visit Biomutation much ;)

Anyone wants to bid for it on here  nah cut the jokes im ruining this poor guy's topic!

nah...knock yourself out...i'm just reading and learning from you guys. I already know my site sucks. I'll work on it tho. Hard to believe i'm the webmaster of DepthVision.

whats DepthVision?

right. ok.

lol...anyway, yeah , whatever Trico said above ^

Thanks Trico, actually, my hands are thanking you
