The site is almost finished - but its not fully ready. So we wont release it anytime soon - we're still in the testing stages even though its over 80% complete ;)
Watch out this is the best collabo site between me and Thomas. To be honest, its the best layout coding and design i've made to date, and in terms of programming, well lets just say Thomas jumped up a few levels too 8)

haha, funny dream.. msn logo is nice tho. Work hard on the logo bio... If you can lucid dream, and remember it, you can use it to find many answers to things like web layouts, logos etc.

Noxcel, for your information sim had no input in the layout! I think u'll be surprised how USABLE the site is once you login. I'll leave that to SithLord who already got a taste of the power 8)

The login was smooth as silk, regging too. I cant really comment on some stuff cause they r been done, so my best hopes go into the project...so many features...so...little...time

Heheh RedD you're misunderstanding the site. FriendScene is NOT a graphics site - its not a BUSINESS site. Its a nice friendly site, where ANYONE should be able to navigate around and use. Its aimed at a very general target audience - so i wanted it to stay unique.
The layout you're showing me above is the typical generic look you see all over the internet. I wanted to give this site a personal feel aimed at both men and women. But thanks for the suggestions, i'll see what i can do.
All i can tell u is, dont blame us when u get addicted to the site ;)

Yea, but you gotta keep in mind what the site is for. In this case, eye candy is down the bottom end of priority list and easy nav, and lead-times are up the top end. In my opinion its pretty good for what its for. IF the logo is weak it could let it down allot, but as long as bio takes care to create a strong memorable logo, then its all good. However if you really wanted to push a crit out of me, it would be about colour, the soft gentle colours used are great however, I’d say too many colours are used, in one of the screens its got yellow, green, blue and red.
Following on in terms of aesthetics... seems like you've tried to rip the design from the Yahoo home page. :?

In an attempt to get you to reconsider, I honestly think it looks blocky, harsh, cold, flat, generic, boring, dull... and ugly. Just beacuse the main focus isn't graphics doesn't mean it can't use some strong well founded design to make it look nice. Who cares if it's navigable or user friendly, if it looks shite you deter people from using it right from the start.
Blue and Green, com'on... get your colour wheel out! ...It looks anything but warm and welcoming, not to mention the lack of a personl touch.

The blocks design is not from yahoo but Biomutation's layout which was done in mid 2001 long before the current Yahoo look ;)
About the colours, this is the 3rd CSS file i've thrown on the layout. Im trying hard to balance it - it needs to have colour and a lot of it. Talking about Xeophex's comments about the amounts of colours well its simple. The screenshot you're referring to is the Member Homepage:
- The red box only shows up when u have new messages (red = urgent attention was my phillosophy)
- The other red in the menu is me demonstrating the mouse ROLLOVER effect
- The yellow box is the admin message to the members to inform and notify
- The blue boxes are for the member boxes (the standard design)
- The green is for the pagename, and breadcrumb navigation
Heres my theory behind the choices:
If you look at the upper part of the site (the header, the menu, the pagename bar) it looks like a scene. You have the fading blue sky, the green grass - thats the symbol i want to scar in the visitor upon arrival. Nothing fancy, or graphically over the top yet still maintain a good balance to suit girls and guys alike. I've asked for feedback all throughout the design process, girls want more colour, guys want less colour & more eye candy images. Where do you draw the line? :roll:

Yea you can say it is a promo website, but look the structure is good and i would suggest making such a structure. You have to agree it is easy to navigate on the website below.

MIne conclusion: Good idea in bad "paper". It is same as you will represent ya friend a good parker pencil(which writes awsome and looks good) and wrap in toilet paper.

Asking the audience what they want in a site is nice idea, however people who dont really know what they are on about, usualy say what they THINK they want to see. Like girls saying more colour, infact what they really mean is colour used effectivly. Well I dont know the kinda people you asked, but personally when I recieve opinions from people who have never made a website or studied colour, I take on board what they say, but I don't take it too seriously or directly change the design to their suggestions... after all you are the webdesigner.
With me theres always a reason :P
Thanks everyone for the comments, suggestions and links. I do take everything in - i'll see what i can do to balance the colours. The logo is still in the works, and im trying to make the user's Blog/Personal Page page CSS customizable...
That would be a nice feature, customizable.

2. Well it is really easy to get lost there, i visited Thomases page and i couldnt even browse his pics or do something, well i dunno why and i gave it up.
3. The colours really look simple , but this design make page load in few secs.

Well and etc. i am just to lazy to write everything, maybe 2morrow, but this site has perspectives, if only Bio does somethign with the design! I will be around there a bit so i will test some functions later 2morrow , after exams are done.

Ok, i've got a wip for the logo, still not sure what to go for. I've put the MSN butterfly logo on the site and it looked beautiful - but we all know M$ and their lawers ;)

I've got a few other ideas for a logo to play with - maybe a rainbow or even a simple faery (closest thing i can get to a butterfly without MS raising an eye)!
As RedD suggested above, and Xeophex after beta testing the site, im more than happy for you guys to contribute with the logo. See if anyone can reach something we can all agree on - im gonna post all the different mockups i do here then decide.

Since there are many peeps from different countries in this community, i suggest to include the earth pic as a part of logo. Since you try to help people to communicate then you need to make some kind of hand flying around earth. Well how you liek it? It is hard to put it as text description, i will draw it with a pencil and scan 2morrow.
Nice idea - has a good concept behind it. About the slogan there is already one :P

ok, buddy, in north america you can use R only after you registered the name, and you can use TM from the moment you apply to register your name. Thats what I read when I was trying to register noxcel, but some fucker started noxell in 1966, some science company, so I can't register a TM, only web company name.
Yea, I thought you were only supposed to put the TM if you have registerd trademark for that name. (even tho some people just put it there anyway). I think it costs around £200 GBP.
Well the Friendscene launched, but again in beta test!
No FS is no longer in beta mode :) Its working 95% the other 5% being unpredictable behaviour (database, different languages, speed etc.) since we never tested it with such huge number of signups. We're nearly approaching the 100 member mark and its not even been online for a day :)
Now back to the topic at hand, i want to know your opinions on the logo and the actual design, arrangements, layout and functionality now that you can use the site.

1. First of where da normal boards?! Ya website will die if you will stay with that lame piece of "Friends" forums. LOL how people can make a decission about person just looking at his profile.
2. The design still stays lame.
3. About the logos you showed, man trully simple logos. And the ones with aliens in hats, man not whole world is insane about alien stuff.
4. Dunno where you found 100 peeps singned in if i only noticed maximum 40.

Let me explain the concept of the Message Board - its not intended to be a forum, just an announcement/bulletin board where u can post something to inform ALL your direct friends. You can make a decision about a person based on the feedback (Testimonials) other people write about that person.
The last thing we need there is another forum :? It'll cause nothing but chaos and waste admin moderation time as well as resources. The site is 100% self managed so we dont have to do anything :idea:
The signup figure i quoted above also includes the yet-to-be-activated accounts too!

The top was quick black and white mockups and ideas for brainstorming. Currently working on the fairy idea, if u look closely you can still see my sketch lines 100% CorelDraw & mouse - i definatly need a wacom tablet :x

You know how u have Tooth Fairy, well i was thinking Friend Fairy - and if you read my theory a few posts back on the colours i chose you'll see why i want a butterfly or a ladybug or rainbow. Something to fit the concept.
Pleased to say that the latest logo concept for FriendScene is now complete. Im gonna test it out and see how it holds up, then maybe tweak it further if i have to.
