GfxDiary Backend Improvement

After some discussions with Bio, I decided to pauze our current project for a while and to do some more work on improving GfxDiary.

The question is: What do you guys want me to do?

One of the polls answers needs some explanation ..
ELF had a idea of making something like a testchamber where people can upload tests, or halffinished, or finished .max and .psd source files and share them with the public
so they can develop it further ...

If you vote for the fixing bug option, would you be so kind to summerise the bug, and give me the location ... thnx

If you vote for "other features" please discribe them, and tell me every little detail about your idea!

adios amigos
let the voting commence :arrow:

Topic moved to the right place ;)

Bug fixing this place is a good idea - i reached a dead end, lets get this place in a true production order cos the bugs do get in the way. Theres a big list of feedback on the current bugs we have here in this forum so thats a place to start!

I WANT MY TESTCHAMBER! :D

Auto redirect after posting if you will... :P

Bug in changing the signature. It dont work.

Ok lets update you guys on whats happening around here. i've finished my exams while Thomas is still taken care of a few left. All throughout this time, we've been working on the backend for GfxDiary 2005 as well as the new project (FriendScene). This is the reason we havnt been fixing bugs around here. The new backend uses our very own powerfully built ENGINE along with our own FORUM fully built from scratch. There are some big changes coming your way.

The penciled plan is that using this engine to power two websites one targetted for PROGRAMMERS and one targetted for DESIGNERS - therefore the focus here will be critical. You could say GfxDiary is expanding and splitting into two user groups to cater for its complex audience. However, this does not mean two completly DIFFERENT sites! Two sites working together hand in hand to provide you with what you need depending on your area of expertiese. Everyone say hello to CodeUnit - the programming twin of GfxDiary. The two will be streamlined along side each other in the near future both powered by one engine, one backend and one database. However, they are different site in terms of content :) Wait and see what kind of magic we're playing with - its never been done before on the web!

Update: codeunit is now online (www.codeunit.com) BETA and still in early developement. Its multilingual so dont mind all the DUTCH you see, it has a lot of dutch, so you're not going insane heehe!

Im working on different concepts of GfxDiary 2005.
- At the moment starting with recreating this layout and making it load faster.
- Then work on improving it and changing it by playing with different colours and themes.
- Then work on improving the site structure and making the site generally simpler to navigate and use.

well.. i dont mind the dutch in codeunit ;)... :p

and for this site.. hmm.. create something new ;).. fresh ;).. lightweight ;)..
and eehmm colours.. themes :).. whoo :p..

Things moved very unexpectedly, now instead of working on the future GfxDiary and the new CORE engine - we find ourselves running around securing a way to keep this beast online and ensuring our future.

Looking to purchase a powerful server to run the site - because normal shared/semi-dedicated servers cant keep up with the demand anymore

Please bare with us for the next few weeks while we do something about this issue. Who knows, you might all get to see a nice Xmas present from us ;)

Sorry for the stupid question, but what demands? Less than 10 active members should not use much, maybe a simple change of host will fix the problem

Not sure if you saw the message earlier today: Bandwidth Limit Exceeded.
50GIG a month no longer is enough for this place.

The forum may not be as active as we would like, but that doesnt mean there is no traffic flowing in and out. Plus this server is expected to power all the other GfxUnit sites ;)

are you saying that gfxdiary is using 50gigs/month? 8) maybe writing your own script was not a good idea...

If i had a 50 gig traffic , then i would boose my incomes :D

:D Great times ahead. I feel motivated this month - xmas is coming early, lots of things to take care of. From our own private server, to maybe a new GfxDiet layout, to maybe an all new GD2005 release? :o

Whats santa bringing you this xmas? Expect a major surprise this month ;)

:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D

*got a christmas feeling*

make it happen bio :)..

give the beast some SlimFast or other diet drinks ;)
DO SOMETHING ;) ;p

 Well I guess nothing special as always .

The entire backend has been redone. I must admit, i surprised myself on this one. I only started full redevelopement on the site early december. I had tonns of university deadlines, went through a birthday, went through a few rough days with one of my close friends being hospitalised. Then later packing and travelling in this terrible London weather to return back home for the holidays. All throughout this period i was throwing around 20 hours a day to redo GfxDiary, bring it back to its glorious form in 2003 before we made the mistake to expand to the nuke engine in 2004. I guess too much change is definatly bad, it brings nothing but confusion to the users.

You guys wanted activity? I've centralised this version of the site to maximise on this aspect, everything is linked and integrated together. Unlike the older version (GD2004).

Im tired of having to redo the site every year. Im sure i speak for Thomas too, the poor guy had his school work killing him and not much time to help on the site. The fact is, it takes everything away from us on the most important month of the year :|

Nevertheless, i wanna take this moment to personally wish you all a belated merry xmas and a happy new year. I dont think we ever went through a year change since we always used this time frame to redevelop the site
