GregMeister Tutorials

hey Gfx compadrios...

would you like mini tutorials (with pics and all) from me,even though i have a reputation of not doing things the orthodox or efficient way?
If you don't know what or how I model yet, check out the Audi A8 and mechwarrior topics, my gallery in yours truly, GFx galleries, and check the lately unupdated www.freewebs.com/darthrender.
For all you lazy kids here's a sample at the bottom of my post:

A Tutorial subject I'm thinking of is:
-How to model a high detail tread for tires (i might use the wheels I'm gonna make for my Quattro)

What do you think?

Topic moved to Graphics Tutorials forum

I think this is a good idea, it doesnt matter how you work, everyone has their own unique way of doing things

ya man! that would be very interesting.

Ofcourse I'd like to see and read them!

I agree with the rest! It would be great! :)

coolza...lookin forward to it

btw,how do u make a video feed directly from the desktop without using crappy low qual webcam...how do u record the desktop (anything on it) with my voice....in windows media player i only have the chance of recording from the webcam

sorry, but like the one lombardi or wtvr did when nox revealed he ripped his tutorial

CamStudio - Shareware
Recordster - Freeware

/// Not sure about the voice tho.. you may have to edit that in later if u save it a .avi or sumtin with a video editor.. but i found both these programs satisfactory for desktop recording.

I use Camtasia, great little thing

i got camstudio...was hard to find, but boy is it cool.....you can use all the different codecs like XviD or DiVx

If you're thinking of making a video tutorial Sith then better take up music lessons to train ur voice. ;)

LOL, I came just imagine him screaming after that one. :)

haha...btw bio, how will i upload video tutorials as the tutorial maker is solely for pics and text with an upload limit?

i think he will have to upload it for you to the site.. or you will have to find a site to upload it onto..

filming it now (XviD codec)

Dont worry about that, i'll guide you to the path where you can follow the white rabbit to the Private GfxDiary Upload Centre ;)

Just make sure its of reasonable size!

im done filming... HAHAHA,the film's size is 435Megs....
its at 1152x864... how do i resie this?....but when i resize do i lose audio....sh*t....there was no setting for size, only a setting for where you want the program to record,i put fullscreen to record the whole aspect, but my desktop size is 1152*864....crap...what do i do...i can still upload i dont care,i rather care about the dowloaders and upload space obviously...

also, even though i used synchronizing tools or not,the audio is a bit advanced in time compared to video, like 3 secs or so,nothing important.

someone help plz

ok,f*k this, ill redo the tutorial, cose i found a mistake i did....i hid a mesh, and then, forgot that i actually did hide it,AND it was an instance mesh,so watever i did for the unhiden mesh happened to the hidden one,so there were actually two crappy tires!!!!!LOTSA VERTECES

435megs? LOL. You need to fix your preferences. I really dont think you need audio, as your taking it step by step already, i havent seen a tutorial on the web in video that uses a voice and ya. u def need to tweak the settings.. i wud tell u how, but my 30 day trial (or w/e) has expired so i cant open it :(

*** EDIT ***

Also, i suggest you compress the file as much as possible i'd say your file should be at the most 30megs. No one is gonna wanna download a file bigger then that, especially for a tutorial. And once you compressed it and all i also think that if the file is like more then 10 megs, i think you should break it up into pieces (like part 1, part 2..etc) as it will lighten down on the bandwidth.

:? and i was gonna say keep the file size under 30-50MB but i guess im too late hehe. It doesnt need to be that big - 640x480 is more than big enough and its the most widly used format size!

i get that,i would have done it at that size but there is no setting for that....all i can set is the region where the program will record...i clicked fullscreen to record all the desktop and that is 1152*864...its stupid...it wouldve been nice if you could tell it to record from the desktop (1152*864) and then compress it to 640*480

why not just change your resolution?

heh..well then ok

done...low qual version...111megs

wow.. thats still pretty big.. try compressing it

from what, its already pretty low on quality,i dont think i can make it any 'worse'...don't forget, the tutorial takes more than just two steps, even though its a tire tread, theres lotsa steps to it

how long is it?

** and good luck finding a place to upload it. not only is it a big file, but its gonna take up alot of bandwidth, and many 56k users are not gonna wanna download it either.

yea i kinda noticed that...its 22mins 30secs and the long one (~480megs) is 1hr 2 mins

ok well.. split the video into like 2 or 3 pieces, it will be better for 56k users and better on bandwidth

i dont have any video and audio cutting tools damn...this tutorial can just shove its fat a** to hell

you can use any basic splitter, doesnt have to be a video splitter, just save as the video format, download a file splitter and then break it up in x pieces

hmm, maybe u should just stick to the conventional tutorial methods? I mean since u recorded it, u can easily write up what you've talked about and print screenshots etc.

Im gonna give u some space to upload the video and check for myself with the encoding expert i know at uni. Then i'll bring back some results! Anything over 50MB will be pointless in hosting because nobody will have enough time to watch it and wait for the download time - also the server/bandwidth will receive a big blow too :?

i dont wanna cause havok anywhere...thats the last thing i want...ill just do a text/pic tutorial....TAKE it UP Mr Greg,For the frikkin 7th time.....!lets see now,i create a plane using 15w 8h................................................................................................

::Offer for Sith about editing:: (Proposal)
Tell you what sith if you upload it somewhere, I will edit it(cut it up into parts) and encode in both Xvid and Divx. Anything else needed for it I could do it for you. And just to be nice I will offer myself up for a mirror so we can have the file on Gfxdiary or my site.

::File mirror idea::
I also have a sneeky way(well not really sneaky actually smart) way of saving band width. Ok what you do is host one file on one server and on another and so on and so forth. Or you do another way to save bandwidth.

::FTP:: *The smart way to go*
What happends is that when you are using FTP you don't use bandwidth that is provided by your hoster. See the reason is that if they did that and you had lets say a 400 mb file that you needed to update everyday for some odd reason then every time you download it you would be using bandwidth, so they don't count FTP transfers because of that. Plus it is faster. I will be willing to offer anonymous FTP access so that this can be achieved.
