Flash just turned 3D

Well, i dont know about you guys but have you noticed how the flash medium has turned into 3D art? most websites which utilised excellent flash for a few years have all moved into the 3D Flash bandwagon. now we have a 3d animation and amazing visual experience on the web. although it has its advantages, there are many disadvantages at the moment. its not very compatible with many servers, and wont be viewable on many computers without all the complex plugins being installed. and even with plugins, it still wont view on some browsers.

*sigh* technology is moving too damn fast for its own good and many people are playing catch up. i dont even know whether i should stick to traditional webdesign (html, gif, jpeg) or go with the flow and start jumping on the already unstable and packed bandwagon (flash, animation, interactivity)!

What would you do?

well thats true.
The problem most people especially designers are facing is that they are making there sites way too flashy, (amazing), well for other designers, or people who that stuff thats great, but wait a sec, 85% of the people out there have problems locating the start button how will they know what the f*uk is goin on such a website....

Personal conclusion: Great fancy stuff, just on GFX sites, gaming sites as well...the rest stick with sleak/pro layouts :)

i hate flash sites just cuz you can't read anything, the text is fucked up.

i like the basic html, gif, jpg stuff, the rest is too uhm fancy and sometimes pointless

i don't like most flash sites but ones like 2advanced are the best!!

i like flash sites as long as they visualy stunning but still mnage to get the point across, and oh yeah not alot of preloaders(those things suck). i am working on my site which i amusing  3d studio max, Flash, Photoshop, Dreaweaver, Realsoft 3d, and Bryce 5. I think it will turnnout nice when it is done

Damn thats too many AAA apps there Voldron. Keep us in touch when its out ;)

Realsoft 3d, and Bryce 5: never even heard of it :P, what can you do with it?

Well REalsoft is a user friendly way of making 3D shapes real quick and easy. They have a free trial i think it is Called Realsoft 3D SE. Bryce 5 is great for making landscapes and other such things dealing with terrain.

The site is almost done just have to add text to one section. I also have to reducde the file size, it is huge. Thanks to the guys at shadownees for one of the picutres on my html site.

why do you use a terrain maker @ your website? :?

I don't at the moment, i only use for little movies and things like. Have you ever played, Mist. They used bryce

I guess you mean myst :) yeah it looks awesome, only pictures :P
dont really like the walking-through-level-concept though ...

well that is basicly what bryces strength is in, landscape

ok, sounds nice *starting up shareazaa*

Yeah Bryce is really good for landscapes and stuff like that but i think Vue d'esprit is the best of all. I think the rendering time of Vue is 4 times as fast as Bryce

My new pc should be built within the next few weeks, so I'm going to dig up all the freebie cover cds containing cinema4d, 3Ds etc and get into moddeling possibly. :D

nice, dont forget to show us your skills :)

I like using Terragen and Mojoworld whenever I'm not using Bryce. I tend to use Bryce for abstract art more than for landscapes anyways lol.

Anyways, back on topic.

I'm the type of person that likes to try new things. Therfore I would probably jump on the high tech, futuristic, flash bandwagon...then I would unintentionally break the wagon with my weird (and sometimes dumb) experiments.

I don’t know which I prefer, both have benefits, I suppose it all depends on the websites purpose. Flash does annoying me sometimes, I always think an elegant hybrid is much more effective than a fully flash site, generally speaking that is. If I was in that area of business, I would certainly jump right on that bandwagon, I would have a while ago. Since, with broadband becoming a common occurrence in households, and ISPs competing, upgrading bandwidths to customers: Flash + 3D GUI elements = $$$.

Therefore, if anyone here is considering that area (webdesign, multimedia) of things as a career, my advice would be to jump right on... NOW!! GO GO GO...

Im considering that career, yet I feel flash has been replaced with CSS2 :? I've messed with flash had my fare share of experiments and tricks (nothing as advanced though) and i just didnt feel comfortable with it. Flash didnt have that good feel factor like Dreamweaver which is surprising for a Macromedia product.

Anyway, as Xeo said, do learn flash but also be ready for the new CSS3. Its gonna do some major damage :O

I remember reading something about a program from Microsoft which is in development. It was to be for Longhorn and is said to be a "Flash killer". It was a while ago I read. What will become of this I wonder?...

Flash seems to be used on enterprise business. Microsoft wants that market so I wouldnt be surprised to hear they're making a "flash alternative". Do keep us upto date on that if you find out!

Well I found the article, or atlest one similar to the one I read a while ago. Check it here.
Poor old Macromedia. :(

Wow, MS is really demolishing the industry with its latest operating system "Longhorn". I'll dig up more info on this "Sparkle" project. Thanks for sharing Xeo, interesting news indeed.
