Game Engine

I've already talked to BioALIEN about a group of programmers who can write a game engine. It will support OpenGL, Direct3d and etc. fromats.
Can be adapted to every game genre: Action, RPG and etc.
i Have tested it. And   .....
So what r your thinkings about it??

But as always they require some ammount of money! this the worst asspect!

well, if its a very small amount then i'm sure we can handle it! we can get people to donate ;) or i'll just have to get out there and get this thing humans call JOB!

well, even if we did get an engine, how will we get it going? we still need people who are experienced with using engines or at least know how to work them.

anyone out there who knows - get in touch ASAP!

I can help out with Money! $$$$$$

I'll donate...(Let me check my wallet)

$2 dollars is that enough? :D

LOL yeah that should cover the engine, marketing, promoting the game, rendering all the scenes, publishing, and posting and packaging. Nyx how did you become soooo rich :?:

Nice try though :)

I have a fair amount of experience using engines, and if I cant do it, I know people who can...

thanx, but im not sure whether we can use an existing engine or build a totally new one. our game play will differ from one chapter to another. if there's an engine with this sort of flexibility then i'm all for it

Heh... have fun coding your own engine with that functionality.

Sorry, been awhile since Ive been around.

Best thing to do would be to hang around Gamasutra and see what pops up and possibly ask questions...

yeah i used to but the game community moves sooo fast its really hard to keep track of it. so my intrest levels just temporarily slowed down. i'm usless at programmin and even if i tried - i dont think i'll ever be good enough to handle a games engine. too much complexity. my head would blow

You guys are actually trying to code an entire engine...wohow....

ok modding a game is one thing, writting a complete new engine...thats quite a thing :P

You sure that there isnt a way to mod an existing game?

Take care

check http://sourceforge.net and search for game engine.
Im sure you can find a good one :)
cya,
Thomas

.. and I can always help ya with it :)

Thomas: thank you for that. Are you really good at engines? we're desperately looking for experienced programmers for this project. 8)

If you have the knowledge then come and join in - no pressure on your shoulders!

Someone I know says he is really good at programming, I asked him to join BioGame but he says he is trying to make his own game at the moment and he will only be able to help in about 4-5 months.

Now thats some good news. We needs some big programmers on board if we even wanna get this project rolling. At the moment we have no official BioGame programmers, so if anyone out there is upfor the job, then... 8)

ive already programmed a mp3-player in vc++, maybe useful as backgroundmusicplayer :)

I'm pretty good with some game engines. What type of engine will you guys be using?

3d, all the way :)

I think i know someone. I ll try to get him on board. He's very good at programming and i think he could learn something by joining us with the project. ;)

It will be great. We need this engine.

Finally the search has been a success. ELF brought to my attention a very powerful and reliable engine which is open source. Crystal Space 3D, i've been reading about it and its impressive. I think we will go for this one. What are your views?

It all comes down to finding the programmers who are comfortable with using this engine. If im correct then the search for an engine has ended and we could have a clear winner. Here is the link to check out:
http://crystal.sourceforge.net

p.s. Thanks ELF for this link!

It's great news! It's time to work under BioMUTATION hard. I have some ideas of the main interface menu. I'll try to make it soon.

One mine friend paints on paper like f'king Davinci! Lol i dream to convince him for concept art :)

I might, if I find time, come up with some concept, and maybe do a model or two...

Hmm, I studied the source files pack, and found out that the maps, and all the models can be made in 3ds max, making it the primary tool of use...
Besides there SEAMS to be some files for making some 3rd part apps for the developement team, like texture convertion and stuff...

This is one impressive engine! I can see the project is going to get on like a house on fire here. I'll help where ever I can :).

If you guys havnt checked out the screenshots that demonstrate the power of this engine heres the link:
http://crystal.sourceforge.net/tikiwiki/tiki-galleries.php?find=screenshots

I've been holding talks with ELF to get familiar with this engine and its files. It can support .3ds files directly as well as other famous 3d apps which is an advantage. Now that we have so many talented 3d artists on GfxDiary they can aid in the development and turn those 2d concepts and sketches into 3d models. ;)

In other words bring the BioGAME characters to life 8)

ya i can always help out :) lol

What kind of game is this again? a MMORPG? single player? what? Im sure I said I would help when I first got here, but im Sure I will help in the future.

BioGame is a bit of everything - contains many different types of gameplay, and this engine is felxable enough to do the job. Its designed to be a single player game but who knows, if we gain the resources we could give it some multiplayer online abilities!

Ok ok, listen up...
I've compiled the engine, and been playing a bit with it. The overall GFX quality is pretty ok, nothing special, and could use some serious improvement... BUT DON'T WORRY!
Right now the team behind Crystal Space is working on a new "renderer" (GFX engine for the game) it will support bump mapping, higher detail texturing, and much much more FX for the game!
Lemme know if anyone else wants to compile the thing, and has problems doing so, I got links to all the needed libs and stuff...
Also since you're still in the pre-production of the game, you could just let the codemonkeys (Thomas... ;) ) build up the ground structure of the actual game (Like formking out the different weapons and utils files, making a working network game demo and so on) and then when the whole thing comes to the production part, you can get the newest files for crystal space, including the new renderer with the neat features, and add the in-house programmed stuff on top of that.
Also you can't start the model creation face yet, since you have no idea what features and texture types you can use, and how many polies you can use on each model.

ELF programs to? what engine is being used, Cyrstal Space?

Yea, of course...

Im scared of ELF. He looks so evil. He would create something evil.

Unreal Engine 3.0... jaw dropper

Damn sim, havnt u been reading anything we post? You ask the most random questions that already been answered a few posts earlier!

ELF which version of the engine did u download? I'll be doing that tonight. It doesnt have a simple WINZIP download version :x I'll talk to you later on today to get some progress on this!

yeah I read. I must of forgotten everything.

Hmmm, I downloadet the current, not the stable, since that's WAAAAAAY outdated.
If you use WinRAR you don't have any problems with extracting the files ;)
The new renderer the engine will use is not released yet, and propably won't before in a long time... unless someone donates a bit of cash to the project... ;)

I know, i read all of that way before you :P I guess we can donate them with some traffic ;)

I'll put a link on the Biomutation website, that place needs a lot of work to make it the home of BioGame!
