Damn, which designers did microsoft and sony hire? The design is just soo bad, just like the xbox. The controller looks like a one dollar pc-controller. The hardware like the Cell processor is awesome though. I've never really liked playstation because of its lack of in my opinion good games, but the hardware of this version is really impressive soo its very-good-looking-games compitable, some serious competition for xbox. Gamecube is still my favorite though, because of the funny childish games lol, cant help it. Got a xbox too for the cool racegames on it, might buy the xbox360 for Project Gotham Racing 3, damn you should check out the screenies and ingame videos. Anyways nice try sony, now bring forward some good games...
I thought the same at first, but then again, they dont want to make it "look" amazing, because it is supposed to sit on your TV as a home entertainment system. So they're all going for simplicity or futuristic looking concepts.
Nintendo is targeting a younger audience so their next version design will have to look interesting and appealing - not necessarily going for the simplistic futuristic approach!
Xbox 360 will be out before the PS3. Xbox 360 is due about Xmas and the PS3 is early 2006.
Yeah because last time out Xbox lost out because PS2 was released earlier. Some sources say Microsoft named their console Xbox 360 to stop people comparing versions with Sony's console. Xbox 2 vs PlayStation 3 doesnt sound powerful judging by version counts.
Either way, looking at those performance charts posted in that link above, it seems PS3's Cell processor is extremely powerful. If this is true (and not just propaganda) then MS should be a little worried!
Quote:
The cell processor is very powerful in certain area of calculations, its even faster than a "super computer" with that. Other calculations-speed aint that fast. Its said in the technical world that its just hype, and aint that great at all.
Yeah i noticed, the charts its showing is only for "floating point" calculations.
I heard its called the Xbox 360 as they can't use Xbox 2 due to legal reasons....

Makes sense really - Although it’d be a stupid, un-educated assumption, it is liable to happen.
Along with the URL bio gave in the opening post, here is another very useful page on the ps3: http://www.gamespot.com/news/2005/05/16/news_6124681.html?gcst=2stream_s...
Check out the tech demos!

It will also support CR-ROM, CD-RW, DVD, DVD-ROM, DVD-R, DVD+R formats. Sony also confirmed that the machine will be backward compatible all the way to the original PlayStation."
Very smart move and impressive backwards compatibility. I wonder if the Xbox will use the same disks.
"Sony also confirmed that the machine will be backward compatible all the way to the original PlayStation" - I always thought that was a nice touch about the playstation 2, nice to see they are doing the same with 3 aswell.
