Im in school learning Maya and Im looking around at other 3d proggies. Ive done a little work in 3d Studio Max, nothing spectacular tho....
Why? because my p3 733 comp cannot handle 3dsmax. It takes 5 hours to render a small model. Bryce can do it in 2 sec. Soon I will get a new comp and will use 3dsmax5.
I have a bad computer too :( but 3DS 5 works good.. sometimes though I have trouble renderring a lot of effects :( I have no money for a new computer, or upgrade, so I have to settle.

my comp has 8 or 16 [do not know for sure] videocard so there is no way i could work with 3dsmax. I may get p4 in september.
